The Way We Were by HyShqa The Way We Were by HyShqa
Something I've been working on for the last few days.

The little orca right in the center is baby Morgan, the recently rescued emaciated calf, the orca above her is her mother, and the rest are her family (or my interpretation of).

I'm sad about her back story, the fact that she lost her family and was starving for some time, but whether she's released or sent to a different facility, I'm sure she's got a fantastic life ahead of her =]

EDIT: Keep any and ALL comments relevant to this image and not to Morgan herself. I don't care if you don't agree with the decisions made based on her life, I can't do anything about that can I -_-

Regardless of the petty human politics surrounding the issue, this is a wonderful painting, and really serves to remind you that at one time, this was the nature Morgan's early life. Makes you wonder what became of her mother and all their relatives. :(

The Orca Coalition have admitted themselves that no one has been able to trace her family, or even the region she is from, despite all of the technologically advanced methods they have so far used to try and locate them, so it is fair to say they will never be found. It angers me that in the same breath the Orca Coalition readily admit they would rather release her into the sea despite not knowing the whereabouts of her family or having a good plan to reintroduce her successfully - basically saying they would much rather see her dead than in captivity. In the early days I hoped she would be released but chances of a successful reintroduction grew so slim it became unrealistic. I'm happy she's going to be sent to Loro Parque in Tenerife, it's a fantastic facility and has all the help of Seaworld behind it. The next coute date is on 7th November when the appeal from the Orca Coalition against Morgan's move will hopefully (and probably) be rejected so she can be moved asap. I think she will be moved within the next 2 weeks.

i know i know...you know, i live in the netherlands and i made a paper about it.
When she is set of in the wild, she would probably die because she doesnt remember to hunt and she will be lonely if no orcafamily adopt her. She would probably end just like Keiko.
but in loro parque she will learn tricks and such, i dont see why Morgan would like to be a circus animal, that's not how a beautiful wild animal should end.
If we weren't there, she would have died, but maybe that was mother nature's will. We have to learn that it is not always good to keep animal (incl. humans) alive.

Ok ok, you just seemed unsure "I don't think she will ever see her family again" rather than "I know she won't" or simply "She'll never see her family again"). I'd be interested in reading this paper if it's an official article, or was it just a school thing?
The technical term is 'behaviours' - 'tricks' is slang. Saying she wouldn't 'like' it is also very anthropromorphic. And I don't think an animal being beautiful should affect how nicely we'd like their lives to be; insects, amphibians, reptiles, and so on are generally considered less attractive animals but all deserve good lives too.
I'd also like to stress that Loro Parque is not a circus. Circuses are travelling shows that play no role what-so-ever in conservation of wild habitats and species and are generally privately run by people who provide second rate levels of welfare to animals involved. Loro Parque is nothing like this.
I'd just like to finish by saying I think it's shameful you feel that way about Morgan's life - that you would rather have seen her die than kept in captivity. That's a terrible thing to wish on anyone, including an animal.

Aw that's cute! That would be so sweet if she lived in a pod like that. Poor little Morgan, but I'm glad she has found a new family!
